Horrific images fill the news daily: passenger planes shot down, radical insurgents fomenting war, killing thousands of innocent people, border crisis with hundreds of thousands of refugees pouring out of war-torn and/or poverty stricken regions in hope of finding a better life elsewhere. This is the reality of the world we live in, or is it?
One of the themes I’m hearing preached these days is that we are in the very end of the last days. The season of the four blood moons is upon us, the harbingers are coming together with nothing to stop them, and many Christians are crying “judgments” from the rooftops. (If you are unaware of what the blood moons are about, see John Kilpatrick’s teaching, or google the four blood moons. Also, if you haven’t heard about the harbingers, please read Jonathan Cahn’s book “The Harbingers”. It really is a must read book.) It does, indeed, seem like we are in the Biblical days of Matthew 24:12. Knowledge has increased (Daniel 12:4), and the love of many has grown cold. Satan knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12). Evil abounds and many are calling good evil and evil good (Isaiah 5:20).
Another theme I’m hearing preached is about a coming tsunami wave of revival. We are being told that we are on the verge of a tremendous outpouring of signs and wonders, healings and miracles. We are all aware that “the greater works” spoken of by Jesus (John 14:12) has yet to happen. Many are sensing that it is now time. Several well respected prophets and Christian leaders are laboring over-time to bring in a transforming revival to the west, even in the USA, in spite of the changing laws and the shifting to the left of this nation by the media and those currently in political power.
So, which is it? What is really going to happen? Where does the truth lay? First, I believe, we have to make a paradigm shift in our thought processes. God operates in cycles: weeks, months, seasons, and years all repeat themselves. History, too, repeats itself and if we don’t learn from it, we are doomed to repeat it. We need to begin to think cyclically, not linear.
So, what are we repeating now? As the harbingers unfolded in ancient Israel and they moved inexorably toward exile and partial destruction by the Babylonians, a new thing was being birthed by the God of Israel for redemption. A remnant was being prepared: Daniel, Ezekiel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther to name a few. These were called to operate in a new level of prophetic revelation, salvation, and national revival. They labored within their callings and giftings in the place God had positioned them to be. It looked like utter devastation, but God!
So where are you positioned? Many have an ostrich mentality. They work and play (play, comfort and ease being the operative words), attend church if they feel like it, tweet all about their favorite celebrity, and generally ignore all that is going on in the world. These have an “it will never happen to me” mentality. They are asleep. Others sit perched above the church spouting doom, gloom and judgment, and pointing self-righteous fingers at those who are asleep. When calamity falls, they are the first to condemn saying “I told you so”, but there is no love in their predictions and they do nothing to pick up the fallen and restore them to their rightful position. These are all ostriches. They see what they want to see.
In ancient Biblical times, Daniel and Ezekiel chose to serve where they were positioned. They chose to worship in spite of their circumstances. We still benefit to this day from the revelation they uncovered. Esther submitted herself to a destiny chosen for her and saved a nation. Noah preached destruction, but simultaneously built a ship to save mankind. These saw the harbingers of their day, pressed into the Holy Presence of God, and became who they were called to be.
Who are you? Do you have a Daniel calling on your life? Are you a modern day Esther? Are you wasting your life on frivolity? Are you immersing yourself in the news and all the doom and gloom preaching of the day? Are you wasting your calling and giftings in an ostrich hole, or are you looking for your open door so you can fulfill your life’s calling?
