I glanced over at the clock and thought, hmmm, I wonder what that means, then forgot about it. Again this morning I looked at the clock and it said “5:55”. It seemed to stand out, like God was trying to tell me something, but what?
Usually, when a particular time on the clock stands out, especially for several days in a row, there is a related scripture I’m to meditate on, but there is no chapter 5, vs 55 in the Bible. So….What could this mean? I began to ponder this during prayer and the Lord said something very interesting. “It’s 5:55 am”. Ok……and?? You see, I’m a very practical person. I know it is 5:55 am. I can clearly see that on the clock. I also know, however, that the Lord is trying to get me to see something else- to deepen my understanding. So, what does this REALLY mean?
Then I began to see it. It is the breaking of a brand new day. In the west, our day begins at midnight, but not so on God’s calendar. On God’s calendar, the day begins at 6pm. Then comes the long, dark night. The breaking of the new day begins at sunrise, usually denoted as 6am. The sun begins to make its appearance on the horizon. Shadows begin to wane as the darkness recedes. Things become clearer in the light of day. The night watches are over as the new day begins.
Many of us have been in the middle of a long, dark night. We watch the news and see evil the world over: wars and rumors of wars, death and destruction. We’ve kept watch in our assigned places, but still the dark lingers on. Many have given up thinking that the night will ever end in their lifetime. We begin to believe that we are part of that company in the book of Hebrews that “died without seeing the promise” (Heb 11:13). Where I am currently located, it is still dark at 5:55 am. When all you see is dark all around you, it becomes difficult to believe that the day is coming, however, the night is fleeing and dawn is coming.
I believe that the Lord is saying “Wake up! A new day is dawning. The long, dark night is finally over! Promises are about to be fulfilled. It is still dark outside. It is 5:55 am. I don’t know how long 5 minutes is with God, but I do know that very soon it really will be 6am and a new day WILL dawn!
